When I was in primary school someone gave me a set of Derwent colouring pencils. I will never forget the first time I opened the pack, each of the 24 different coloured pencils was perfectly sharpened, and I imagined the endless possibilities I would be able to etch on to my blank white piece of paper.

The fact is, I was (and still am) rubbish at drawing and once I started using them they were never nicely sharpened again. But that memory has stayed with me for all of these years.

The day I took these images I visited Dromana beach twice. Once in the morning, then again in the afternoon. I liked the angles of these beach boxes, but the morning sun was in the wrong position. So I went back again in the evening and captured this image, after the sun went down. The image looked good when I played it back on my camera, and when I opened it on my laptop the colours popped out and reminded my of that day I opened the set of coloured pencils.

The days are getting longer and the nights shorter. Stay safe this August.
